COMMITMENT TO ISSF CM 2.5
KTC 2025 Tuna Sourcing Report
At Kien Giang Trading Joint Stock Company (KTC), we are proud to stand alongside the
International Seafood Sustainability Foundation (ISSF) in our commitment to promote
sustainable and transparent tuna fisheries. This report complies with ISSF Conservation
Measure 2.5 by disclosing how we sourced our tuna in 2024 and outlining our roadmap to
achieve ISSF’s 2023–2027 goal — ensuring that all of our tuna comes from fisheries that either
meet the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification standard or are part of credible
Fishery Improvement Projects (FIPs) by 2027.
In May 2025, KTC officially registered as a member of the MSC Fishery Improvement
Program (FIP) initiative to support and co-develop the MSC Skipjack Tuna Project in
Vietnam. This strategic move reflects our long-term commitment to advancing sustainable and
traceable tuna fisheries in both the domestic and international markets.
2024 Tuna Sourcing Breakdown
Total Tuna Purchased: 3,625.234 round tons (included MSC 428.922 tons)
FISHERY SOURCES
A. Breakdown by Fishery Source
-
The percentage of KTC’s purchases (measured in round ton equivalents) for each of the following fishery source categories:
- Fisheries certified by the MSC: 11.83%
- Fisheries in full assessment for MSC certification: 0%
- Fisheries in the MSC improvement program: 0%
- Comprehensive FIPs showing progress within the past 24 months: 0%
- None of the above: 88.17%
-
A roadmap and timeline to increase the percentage of KTC’s purchases from fisheries
certified by the MSC:KTC aims to increase MSC-certified skipjack tuna purchases by 3% annually. Our short-term
goal is to maintain at least 15% of total volume from MSC-certified sources by the end of 2025,
and gradually grow this share through increased collaboration with certified international fleets,
especially from the EU. -
A roadmap and timeline to decrease the percentage of KTC’s purchases from comprehensive
FIPs that have been publicly listed but have not achieved progress in more than 24 months:Currently, KTC does not source from FIPs without demonstrated progress. We prioritize MSC-certified sources over FIPs unless significant improvement can be verified. FIPs may be
considered if tangible results are achieved. -
A roadmap and timeline to decrease the percentage of KTC’s purchases from the “none
of the above” category:This category mainly includes domestically caught and some imported purse seine skipjack
tuna. KTC aims to reduce this share at least 2 – 3% per year by shifting focus to traceable, MSC-certified sources and engaging with suppliers involved in recognized improvement efforts.
SUPPLIER SOURCES
B. Breakdown by Supplier Type
-
The percentage of KTC’s purchases (measured in round ton equivalents) for each of the following supplier source categories:
- ISSF participating companies (Founding, Full, Associate members): 10.32%
-
Data Check companies designated by ISSF that have a published compliance
audit report with respect to ISSF Conservation Measures: 0% - Direct from vessels: 0%
- None of the above: 89.68%
-
A roadmap and timeline to decrease the percentage of KTC’s purchases from the “none of the above”:
Currently, most of our domestic and imported tuna is sourced from suppliers not affiliated with
ISSF. By the end of 2026, KTC targets to increase purchases from ISSF participating
companies—particularly those offering MSC-certified tuna—to at least 20% of total round-ton
equivalent purchases, through expanded cooperation with certified fleets from Europe and other
recognized sustainable sources. In parallel, we plan to reduce purchases from “None of the
above” sources by at least 10% compared to current levels, through the following actions:- Prioritizing suppliers engaged in fishery improvement projects (FIPs) or progressing toward MSC certification.
- Promoting traceability standards and verification among domestic suppliers.
- Gradually phasing down reliance on non-verified sources by replacing them with ISSF-aligned partners.
These measures reflect our ongoing commitment to responsible tuna procurement and
alignment with global sustainability standards.
Commitment to Progress
KTC remains dedicated to building a transparent and sustainable seafood supply chain. We will
continue to publish annual sourcing data and progress updates aligned with ISSF goals, actively
contributing to the long-term sustainability of global tuna resources.
