Cam kết của KTCFOOD đối với ISSF CM

At Kien Giang Trading Joint Scott Company (KTC), we support the objectives of the International Seafood Sustainability Foundation (ISSF) to promote responsible and transparent tuna fisheries worldwide. As part of this commitment, KTC strives to strengthen traceability and improve sourcing practices within our tuna supply chain.

This report is prepared in accordance with ISSF Conservation Measure 2.5, which requires companies to publicly disclose the sources of tuna purchases. The purpose of this report is to provide transparency regarding how KTC sourced tuna in 2025, while outlining our approach to gradually align with ISSF’s long-term objective of sourcing tuna from fisheries that meet the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification standard or participate in credible Fishery Improvement Projects (FIPs).

As a seafood processor and trader operating in Vietnam, KTC sources tuna from both domestic and international supply chains. The availability of MSC-certified tuna within regional markets remains limited; however, the company continues to explore opportunities to improve sourcing transparency and collaborate with partners involved in sustainability initiatives.

2025 Tuna Sourcing Breakdown

Total Tuna Purchased: 3,997 metric tons (RTE)

FISHERY SOURCES

A. Breakdown by Fishery Source

1. The percentage of KTC’s purchases (measured in round ton equivalents) for each of the following fishery source categories:

  • Fisheries certified by the MSC: 0%
  • Fisheries in full assessment for MSC certification: 0%
  • Fisheries in the MSC improvement program: 0%
  • Comprehensive FIPs showing progress within the past 24 months: 0%
  • None of the above: 100%

In 2025, all of KTC’s tuna raw materials were sourced from fisheries that are not currently participating in MSC certification or recognized Fishery Improvement Projects. These sources primarily consist of domestically caught tuna from Vietnamese fisheries and some imported raw materials supplied through regional seafood trading networks.

2. A roadmap and timeline to decrease the percentage of KTC’s purchases from the “none of the above”:
KTC plans to increase sourcing from ISSF participating companies by approximately 2-3% of total tuna purchases by the end of 2026.
To achieve this target, KTC will strengthen procurement from Spanish fleets, which are ISSF participating companies.
Regarding the “None of the Above” category, a significant portion currently originates from local fisheries that are not yet participating in MSC certification.
KTC plan to reduce purchases from “None of the above” through the following actions:

  • Focusing on increasing purchases of MSC-certified skipjack tuna from international suppliers.
  • Gradually phasing down reliance on non-verified sources by replacing them with ISSF-aligned partners.
  • 2027: further increase MSC-certified sourcing to 3% of total tuna purchases, depending on supply availability and market conditions.

As the share of MSC-certified sourcing increases, the percentage of tuna sourced from the “None of the Above” category will be reduced accordingly by approximately 5% over the same period. KTC will continue to review sourcing opportunities and strengthen collaboration with suppliers capable of providing tuna from fisheries that meet internationally recognized sustainability standards.

3. A roadmap and timeline to decrease the percentage of KTC’s purchases from comprehensive FIPs that have been publicly listed have not achieved progress in more than 24 months:

Currently, KTC does not source tuna from Fishery Improvement Projects (FIPs) that have not demonstrated measurable progress within the past 24 months.

We prioritize MSC-certified sources over FIPs unless significant improvement can be verified.

KTC is currently participating in the MSC certification process for skipjack tuna in Vietnam in collaboration with Vina Tuna. The initiative has recently advanced from a Fishery Improvement Project (FIP) toward the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification program, demonstrating ongoing progress in fishery management and sustainable fishing practices.

4. A roadmap and timeline to decrease the percentage of KTC’s purchases from the “none of the above” category:

KTC aims to gradually reduce the “None of the Above” category by approximately 2-3% per year. This category mainly represents tuna sourced from local and imported purse seine fisheries. As the company increases purchases from MSC-certified fisheries, the proportion of tuna sourced from these fisheries will be reduced accordingly.

SUPPLIER SOURCES

B. Breakdown by Supplier Type

1. The percentage of KTC’s purchases (measured in round ton equivalents) for each of the following supplier source categories:

  • ISSF participating companies (Founding, Full, Associate members): 0%
  • Data Check companies designated by ISSF (as defined by the General Provisions and Terms and Conditions for Data Check Companies) that have a published compliance audit report with respect to ISSF Conservation Measures 2.2, 1.1, 4.1, 4.2, and 5.1, as determined and reported by the ISSF external auditor: 0%
  • Direct from vessels: 0%
  • None of the above: 100%

In 2025, all tuna raw materials were procured through local traders and intermediaries operating within the domestic seafood supply chain. These suppliers provide tuna sourced primarily from domestic purse seine fisheries. These suppliers are not currently affiliated with ISSF participating companies or Data Check companies and therefore fall under the “None of the above” category.

Regarding the “None of the Above” category, a significant portion currently originates from local fisheries. This supply is part of the MSC Improvement Project coordinated by the Vietnam Tuna Association and is therefore not yet MSC-certified.

KTC plan to reduce purchases from “None of the above” through as follows:
– 2026: reduce the “None of the Above” category from 100% to approximately 98% of total tuna purchases.
– 2027: continue gradual reduction depending on the availability of certified supply
This reduction will be achieved through the following actions:
– Focusing on increasing purchases of MSC-certified skipjack tuna from international suppliers.
– Gradually phasing down reliance on non-verified sources by replacing them with ISSF-aligned partners.
– Improving traceability and procurement requirements within the company’s supply chain

Commitment to Progress

KTC remains committed to improving transparency and responsible sourcing within its tuna supply chain. The company will continue to monitor developments in sustainable fisheries initiatives and evaluate opportunities to strengthen alignment with internationally recognized sustainability standards.

KTC will also continue to publish sourcing information and progress updates in accordance with ISSF transparency expectations, contributing to broader efforts to promote sustainable management of global tuna resources.
